Summer Gardening

We look forward to the long Summer days and hope that the weather is kind to us. It is the time when we are repaid for the preparation we have done in the past, with lovely flowering shrubs, and the sight and scent of perennials and eye catchers such as climbing roses.

There are so many lovely flowering shrubs which are at their best in June and July. These include abelia, ceanothus, deutzia, hebes, philadelphus, potentilla and weigela. A shrub such as ceanothus comes in various shades of blue and can be a climbing or cushion form. Potentilla is available in a wide range of colours and flowers from May to September.
Look at the range of climbers available at this time of year. These include clematis, honeysuckles and solanum. Again these will offer a large choice of colours suitable for every garden.

We think especially of roses when we think of summer in the garden. At Florascape there is a wide range of shrub roses alongside climbers and ramblers. There are also many celebration roses to commemorate an anniversary or special occasion. Have a look at the wide range of colours available.

This year many gardeners have delayed putting out their bedding plants because night frosts have continued throughout May. Now is the time to see the wide range of bedding plants available at Florascape. There are also ready made hanging baskets and planted containers. Remember Florascape offers a refill service. You can have your basket or container filled with your personal choice of plants and colours .Remember it is important to use the right plants in the right place. If you have a very sunny wall or aspect, then use geraniums, both upright and trailing and a wide range of basket plants. However if the basket will be in the shade for a large part of the day, use fuchsias, busy lizzies and begonias. Illumination begonias provide eye catching trailing flowers in beautiful colours. Nonstop begonias are a good choice for the middle of a container as they have an upright habit.

Summer flowering alpines are available and are very attractive. Varieties available include campanula cochlearifolia and dianthus alpines. Look at the display to see the large range of colours on offer.

Perennial plants offer so much at this time of year. They increase in size annually to give an even better display of flowers. These include achillea, aquilegia, nepeta, paeones, astilbe, campanulas, dianthus, hostas, iris and lupins. Remember also the wide range of ornamental grasses which introduce texture and movement to a border.

Florascape also has a range of plant food suitable for each individual requirement. There are weed killers, slug killers and everything you will need for your garden maintenance. Have a look at our display of garden furniture and hope that the sun shines.
